I’m proud to introduce the newest version of WinesOrganizer. I’m one of its most active user thus far and over the past several months I’ve carefully reviewed how I was using WinesOrganizer and figured out how I could make it flow better and more pleasing. I’ve also implemented your most popular suggestions (keep them coming!). And of course, more improvements are in the works.
Here are some highlights on some of the improvements:
Better search
I kept going back to the Search page, whether to check if a wine existed, or a vintage was already there. And I could not search using the barcode.
As you may know, the barcode is not perfect as some wineries tend to reuse them more than they should, especially for different vintages.
So now you can search for the barcode directly, and you can still search by wine name or winery name. The search results page is also improved, you can create a new vintage, drink a bottle, or edit it directly from that page. This is going to save a lot time!
Multiple Cellars
Many of you requested the ability to have multiple cellars. Consider your wish granted! You may have as many as you need, and you can chose whether that cellar is publicly visible or private. However, private cellars will soon require that you upgrade to a paid version (more on this soon!), but public ones will stay free.
Many more improvements
Lots of little details, things that did not look right, others that were not working as expected, or were confusing, a new search box on all pages, many you won’t notice but the application will feel much nicer overall.
Test drive the new features today at http://winesorganizer.com
Cheers!

As mentioned in my previous post about the beta, and even though it was not quite ready on Friday, the beta of WinesOrganizer.com is ready.
I’ll be adding a lot more functionality quickly, as well as completing a few pages but any data you add will be kept (and updated if necessary).
Please let me know if you find anything that does not work right (using the feedback button) or using the contact page

Baring some major catastrophe, the public beta should open Friday (2/6) evening (Pacific Time).
I’m quite excited to be getting near this important milestone and to get feedback from all of you! Just a few details to take care of and I’ll be ready to launch :)
Thank you all for your patience.

Apparently, Amazon has announced that it will start selling wine online. Not an easy task, but it will rely on New Vine Logistics, and only deliver to 26 states. That’s good news and likely to expand our horizons quite a bit.
It remains a mystery to me why these antiquated laws haven’t been repealed decades ago, but who am I to challenge that? Well, just your average wine lover I guess.
Last I checked, though, still only books.

I could not be more happy to introduce the new look of Wines Organizer!

Thank you to dpan06 for his great logo, and the graphics help provided by
CSS Edit and
Pixelmator .
Check it out!
I'm also quite happy about the progress on the site copy itself, although still needs much work...

Excellent question! I’m glad you asked :)
The current plan is to have the base service be free.
Later on, I may be adding more advanced features, like access to wine reviews for example for a small fee. I’ll also be adding a priority support (a la Remember the milk), and earlier access to new features.
The base service might have a limit on the number of wines you can track, but rest assured that the limit will be placed fairly high (several hundreds…).
Of course, as they say, this is subject to change at any time…

In building the WinesOrganizer site, I’ve put together a list of likely questions visitors may have. Here’s the list of these questions so far.
Who should use WinesOrganizer?
Any one with more than a few cases needs a way to get organized.
Is it easy to use?
Using the latest in Web UI technology to make it easy to do the most simple and often needed tasks, and yet you’ll find advanced features just a click or two away.
How safe is it?
Data will be backed up daily offsite.
I have tried to use paper, stickies, and even other softwares, and nothing has worked
Don’t give up till you’ve tried Wines Organizer, in just a few clicks you can effortlessly add, remove, rate, or search for a bottle and find where it is.
Can I access the data from my smart phone
Of course, whether you use a Blackberry, an iPhone or any other browser capable phone, your precious collection is right there at your fingertips
That’s it for now. This list will grow as new questions comes in, and this will eventually get its own page of course.
Feel free to add more in the comments if you have any others

The site has been saying “Wine Organization made simple. Coming summer 2007…” for too long!
It’s hard to realize that it has been over a year since I got started on this project. Granted, I got involved in a lot of other projects, but a way to organize my wine bottles is something I really need, and I’m really done with spreadsheets. So I’ve been making a lot of progress in a the past month, and I’ll be ready to roll out a limited version soon.
If you’d like to be part of this initial rollout, please use the Contact page
